Another record breaking year at the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk!
Tens of thousands of walkers joined in this year’s Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk on Sunday 26 May, making it the biggest and most successful yet. The event has grown significantly in size and stature, from just 1800 walkers taking part in 2004 to 33 521 people entering this year. A sea of cheerful walkers could be seen making their way along the Durban promenade towards Moses Mabhida Stadium. The event was trending on Twitter in South Africa, as people shared their experiences.
Discovery Health CEO Dr Jonathan Broomberg says, “Discovery is elated with the large numbers of residents who tagged along for the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk, which has grown to be the biggest annual mass participation event in KwaZulu-Natal. This is demonstration of the commitment of the KwaZulu-Natal community to get outdoors and be active in fun-filled way for the whole family to enjoy. The event gives us the opportunity to work with more people to achieve our goal of a healthier society.”
East Coast Radio’s General Manager Trish Taylor agrees, “It’s humbling to see just how much this event has grown.
